As seen on ............Mary Kate Olsen

The Olsen twins are very rarely referred to separately, however in this case, Mary-Kate is the only one that has caught my attention. Having what I consider as great style, she manages to blend very grungy vintage pieces with quite glamorous designer items, which in turn has coined the term "glunge".

With Mary-Kate's style carrying such interest among the fashion world, this, I am sure won't be the only time that I refer to her, however on this instance I think that her choice in sunglasses is quite intereting. She has rehashed the "lennon" sunglasses. The round sunglasses, that John Lennon made famous and fashionable, with Janis Joplin, Ossy Osborne, and many other musicians following in suit. In May, Mary-Kate Olsen went out in her flannelette best, doning a pair of round sunnies, not the ones by Ralph Lauren, or Chanel (even though they are very nice) but a very traditional 70's inspired pair.
Since the 70's the round sunnies have made a few apperances, shortly in the 80's and even in the 90's (check out 90210, I think I had a pair in high school). However, in the last year, a number of designers have re-invented this classic style, Chanel, Karen Walker, Ralph Lauren and even Marc Jacobs have taken the round sunglasses and made them fashion forward (and expensive). Even Lady Gaga, the our current Style "No No" person has been seen out wearing them (and not a whole lot else).

The hot eye wear look of 2008 was pretty much defined by the plastic Wayfarer knock offs or it was Shutter Shades popularized by Kanye West. This summer however, the memo for sunglasses says: CIRCLES ARE IN! Ruby Red Dress stores have a small range of cirlce sunnies for $25 - go in and try them on - you never know, you might like them.

As Seen On.......Peaches Geldof

A new group of girls has surface, dictating the direction of fashion, And their not singers, or starlets, or writerS or artists. They are the daughters of old rockers, and they are certainly making a name for themselves. Peaches Geldof, daughter of Bob Geldof, along with her sister Pixie has defiantly taken the fashion world by storm. Making a name for herself in the british media writing and presenting, she is also known internationally, named in Tatters top ten Fashion Icon list.

Peaches never disappoints at A list events, with her charming, and some times very girly look. Mixing vintage and designer, one of her more common looks is the Micro Mini. Ultra short dresses, both casual and evening, she looks sexy, and sophisticated.

Micro Mini's are nothing new to the fashion world, with Twiggy and Eddie Sedgwick making them their signature looks in the 60's. Since then, women can't turn their back on the micro mini, and has been a constant garment that women from every generation has owned.

As it is a retro inspired style, Ruby Red Dress is the perfect place to start, as we have micro mini's for day and night and with the opaques , leggings, boots or flats, a micro mini is easily worn any time of day

As seen on.......90210?

We are living in the generation of the "remake". Many of the old school movies and in particular, TV shows are being updated, modernized and made just that little bit sexier. Transformers, Get Smart, Charlies angels, and recently Beverly Hills 90210. With the new batch of girls claiming "Fashion icon" status, it made me think about the "original" 90210 fashion, and it can be a lot more relevant today then we realise.

With 90's fashion fast becoming a new influence amongst the designers and fashionistas, you should find some great pieces in your local Vintage store. High waisted shorts and pants, double breasted blazers, florals, off the sholder and mid-drift tops and pockadots are just some of the gems that the 90's offered us, and most have made their way in to main stream stores and even high end fashion. Stella McCartneys Summer 09 collection is one of the examples of designers taking their lead from this decade that was once considered as doudy and has made it sexy, sophisticated and EXPENSIVE.

You can still revel in the 90's mania with out robbing a bank, and run down the one of your Ruby Red Dress stores. We have a great range of blazers in different colours and styles and wearing them with a shorts, micro mini's or skinny legged jeans, they definatly make an outfit look expensive.

Who'd ever thought... Brenda and Kelly being fashionistas!?!

As seen on......Alexa Chung

With another week of celebrity watch, Alexa Chung caught my attention. Although she isn't well know in Australia and USA, she is certainly a huge style icon in the UK. She began as a model at the young age of 14 and over the next decade, established herself in the fashion industry as the face of many labels, (including Vivienne Westwood and Aussie label Antipodium). She has also been the host of many UK TV shows most fashion related.

With such an extensive resume as hers, you would only expect her style to be excellent. She is a great fan of vintage clothing, and is know for her blend of vintage and designer clothing in her outfits.

Here is a more casual idea of Alexa's style at the Glastonbury Festival. She is wearing a pair of high waisted denim cut-offs, tee and a great biker leather jacket. High waisted shorts are a really great wardrobe staple. They are trans-seasonal (with tights and boots in the winter) and look great with so many different tops, jumpers and shoes. We have many different pairs of denim cut-offs in store at only $25. You can get the "Alexa" look from the Ruby Red Dress stores for a fraction of the price that I am sure she paid. (the entire outfit including the jacket is just under $120)
