As Seen On..............Kristen Stewart!

Well, if you don't know who Kristen Stewart is then you must have been living under a rock for the last um... I don't know..... YEAR! Nabbing the female lead in the HUGELY successful "Twilight Saga" movies, Kristen is no stranger to Hollywood. Having showbiz parents, Kristen started acting in feature films at the teenie age of 9, and staring in her first lead role at 12yrs.

With playing Joan Jett in her latest project "The Runaways" Kristen's personal style has certainly been inspired by her role. Donning the necessary black mullet for her character(which is quite becoming of her), she has been seen around town working it with skinny jeans, vintage band tees, chucks, leather jackets and other appropriate rock chick attire.

Although vintage band tees are certainly not new on the fashion trail, they are a "never say die" item that only get BETTER with age.

Check out some of the original and replica band tees available at all Ruby Red Dress stores

As Seen On ............Zoe Kravitz!

With a Rock Star father being the "Must have" accessory at the moment, Zoe Kravitz falls nicely into the 'Style Icon' Catagory. The Daughter of Lenny Kravitz, Zoe, was catapulted in to stardom, gaining roles in Feature films, Music Videos and also modeled in magazines in Europe all before the age of 19yrs. Currently she is fronting the band 'Elevator Fight' that recently performed at the Philadelphia Roots Picnic.

As well as talent, Zoe seems to have also inherited her fathers quirky style. She mixes boho, punk and hippy, yet of most recent she has certainly been inspired by the 90's, more specifically, CROP TOPS!!

With many other style icons busting out their cropped best, the itsy bitsy mini tops are certainly a summer must have. Teamed with a pair of high waisted denim shorts or pants, they are easy, fun and definlatly sexy.

Ruby Red Dress is 'Crop Top' Central, all stores have a great range of tops, from strapless, to strappy, to a tee, come in a stock up for what seems is going to be a VERY hot summer!

Whimsy who....?

I promised you some great hat ideas for the Spring Racing Carnival, and I think these are some of the best. These hats are called "Whimsy Hats", they are from the 50's and are completely delightful. They will definitely make heads turn. They are a great alternative to the feather and sequined facinators, looking young, sweet and elegant. There are only 5 in store at Prahran, so if you like them I suggest you head in straight away!

A quicky but a goody.....

Just a quickly, another races idea - 1950's sheer evening gown, with beautiful big sash, and a stretchy black slip under neath. It is sweet but sexy especially if you match it up with some black accessories, it will edge it up.

Have you been inspired yet? No.....well there is plenty more to come!

*Blink* and its November.....

Just think - Only 5 weeks left until the Melbourne Cup, Only 5 weeks to find "That" dress, shoes, hat/fascinator/hatinator to match, hair, make-up, and tan, tan, TAN! My recommendation to avoid wearing the SAME Zimmerman, Sass and Bide or Scanlan dress as everyone else......GO VINTAGE. That way your are guaranteed to be original and not max out the poor tired Visa card.

Over the next few weeks I will offer you some beautiful vintage dresses that will also be budget friendly. A few options for those who prefer the short, long or somewhere in between!

Also over the next few weeks I will also try to impress you with a number of our millinery offerings. Hats and facinators from the 40's, 50's, 60's 70's and even the 80's, don't break the bank with another Mimco or sportsgirl mass produced creation, invest in an piece of history and look classic, elegant and ORIGINAL!

So sit back and relax as we do all the hard work for you.

As seen on ............Mary Kate Olsen

The Olsen twins are very rarely referred to separately, however in this case, Mary-Kate is the only one that has caught my attention. Having what I consider as great style, she manages to blend very grungy vintage pieces with quite glamorous designer items, which in turn has coined the term "glunge".

With Mary-Kate's style carrying such interest among the fashion world, this, I am sure won't be the only time that I refer to her, however on this instance I think that her choice in sunglasses is quite intereting. She has rehashed the "lennon" sunglasses. The round sunglasses, that John Lennon made famous and fashionable, with Janis Joplin, Ossy Osborne, and many other musicians following in suit. In May, Mary-Kate Olsen went out in her flannelette best, doning a pair of round sunnies, not the ones by Ralph Lauren, or Chanel (even though they are very nice) but a very traditional 70's inspired pair.
Since the 70's the round sunnies have made a few apperances, shortly in the 80's and even in the 90's (check out 90210, I think I had a pair in high school). However, in the last year, a number of designers have re-invented this classic style, Chanel, Karen Walker, Ralph Lauren and even Marc Jacobs have taken the round sunglasses and made them fashion forward (and expensive). Even Lady Gaga, the our current Style "No No" person has been seen out wearing them (and not a whole lot else).

The hot eye wear look of 2008 was pretty much defined by the plastic Wayfarer knock offs or it was Shutter Shades popularized by Kanye West. This summer however, the memo for sunglasses says: CIRCLES ARE IN! Ruby Red Dress stores have a small range of cirlce sunnies for $25 - go in and try them on - you never know, you might like them.

As Seen On.......Peaches Geldof

A new group of girls has surface, dictating the direction of fashion, And their not singers, or starlets, or writerS or artists. They are the daughters of old rockers, and they are certainly making a name for themselves. Peaches Geldof, daughter of Bob Geldof, along with her sister Pixie has defiantly taken the fashion world by storm. Making a name for herself in the british media writing and presenting, she is also known internationally, named in Tatters top ten Fashion Icon list.

Peaches never disappoints at A list events, with her charming, and some times very girly look. Mixing vintage and designer, one of her more common looks is the Micro Mini. Ultra short dresses, both casual and evening, she looks sexy, and sophisticated.

Micro Mini's are nothing new to the fashion world, with Twiggy and Eddie Sedgwick making them their signature looks in the 60's. Since then, women can't turn their back on the micro mini, and has been a constant garment that women from every generation has owned.

As it is a retro inspired style, Ruby Red Dress is the perfect place to start, as we have micro mini's for day and night and with the opaques , leggings, boots or flats, a micro mini is easily worn any time of day
.
